Opo displays a full charge within 9 minutes

by time news

Oppo opens the Barcelona Mobile Exhibition with a series of announcements about batteries and charging. The next step in terms of opus – and it seems to be quite close – is charging at a power of no less than 150 watts. At this power, a full charge of a battery with a capacity of 4,500 mAh will occur in about 15 minutes, with a 50 percent charge lasting only about 5 minutes (the charging rate is not uniform throughout the entire process).

Opo claims that the improved SuperVOOC technology they have developed will allow charging at these fast rates, while maintaining a completely reasonable lifespan of about 1,600 charging cycles (compared to the industry standard of about 800 cycles). Opo has developed an exclusive chip dedicated entirely to charge management, temperature testing and possible malfunctions. In addition, the battery itself contains a “self-healing” mechanism that the manufacturer claims can repair cells that have fallen out of use during charging.

The first device to support this technology is expected to come out during the second quarter of 2022, i.e. between the months of April and June. It may actually come under the OnePlus brand. The charger itself is manufactured using GaN technology, and is therefore not expected to be particularly large.

Opo’s research laboratories already have prototype models for devices and chargers with an even higher power of 240 watts, for a full charge in less than 10 minutes. So far, however, this is only a preliminary “experiment”, and the company is not yet ready to announce when it will launch devices that support the impressive technology.
