Ottifanten pictured at Otto Waalke’s art exhibition in Dissen

Otto Waalkes is a true jack-of-all-trades when it comes to entertainment. For decades he has been more successful as a comedian, musician and actor than almost anyone else in Germany. Through a collaboration with rapper “Ski Aggu”, Waalkes achieved another hit last year, which may have made the cult East Frisian famous again among younger audiences.

The painter Otto Waalkes, on the other hand, brings one thing to mind in particular: his drawings of elephants playing practical jokes, known as Ottifanten. A vernissage will soon be dedicated to Waalke’s picturesque work in the Art and Culture House in Dissen.

From April 12th to May 26th, the KuK-Haus will be open every Sunday between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. The works on display are characterized by old master crafts such as oil and acrylic painting and testify to Waalkes’ connection to the artists of the so-called Frankfurt School.

Many pictures are reminiscent of well-known works of art that the Ottifants sneaked into. According to the KuK-Haus press release, entry will be free. Donations, however, are welcome.
