Earth Hour 2024 was a complete success! On March 23, 2024 at 8:30 p.m. local time, people around the world turned off their lights for an hour to collectively send a strong signal for more climate protection and a strong democracy. In Germany, the commitment was impressive: More than 557 cities took part in the well-known WWF climate protection campaign and thus called for concrete and consistent climate protection measures.

Earth Hour 2024 – A shining example of joint climate protection

On Saturday, over 557 communities in Germany, numerous companies and thousands of people took part in Earth Hour, probably the most symbolic campaign for climate protection in the world. Under the motto “Your hour for the earth – protect the climate, strengthen democracy” they set an example for more climate protection and basic democratic values. “In view of the many current crises, Earth Hour is an important moment of collective pause, hope and respect for other people and the earth,” said Viviane Raddatz, climate chief at WWF Germany.

Around the globe, the lights on famous buildings, company headquarters and private homes were switched off between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. to send a clear signal to politicians to quickly implement comprehensive climate protection measures.

This year, for the first time, citizens in Germany were able to give the earth an hour of their time through the so-called “Hour Bank” – for example by taking part in climate courses at the WWF Academy, cooking sustainably with friends or collecting rubbish in the city own neighborhood. In total, the Hour Bank has already accumulated more than 550,000 hours worldwide.
