In Mayiladuthurai district, heavy rains in Sirkazhi and Kollidam submerged paddy ready for harvest. The farmers have demanded to provide proper relief.

Mayiladuthurai district: Heavy rains lashed Sirkazhi area for the last 3 days. Samba paddy ready for harvest was submerged in areas including Kadavasal, Vadakal, Edamanal and Thirumullaivasal.

Similarly, farmers have been suffering due to the samba paddy fields being irrigated in various places due to heavy rains. And due to the continuous rains, the farmers are not able to drain the rain water.

Similarly, oilseed crops including groundnut, black gram and lentils cultivated in the plains area in Sirkazhi taluka are being affected by rain water.

Similarly, due to continuous rains for the last 3 days, rain water has accumulated on the old bus stand, new bus stand, Purtadi Mariamman Kovil Road, South Main Road, Thiruvalluvar Nagar Road and Madina Nagar. This is causing great inconvenience to the public and motorists in the area.

Municipal employees led by Sirkazhi Municipal Commissioner Pattusamy are actively involved in the task of removing rain water by means of a Bocklin machine.

Similarly, in Vaitheeswaranko municipality, the public in the area are getting inconvenienced due to the accumulation of rainwater on the roads at various places.

In areas including Achalpuram, Dandesanallur, Kamarajarnagar and Alalasundaram near Kollidam, the samba planted paddy was still ready for harvest in 15 days. In this case, the heavy rains caused the paddy fields to sink and sink. As a result, 500 acres of samba paddy fields in Achalpuram area alone were damaged. Similarly, paddy ready for harvest in areas including Kunnam and Perambur is lying fallow. A total of 1,000 acres of samba paddy was damaged in the Kollidam area.

According to Achalpuram farmers, samba paddy was about to be harvested in 15 days. Unexpected heavy rains damaged 1,000 acres of samba paddy fields in Achalpuram alone. A total of 3,000 acres of samba paddy fields in Kollidam Union have been wasted in the water. Therefore, the government officials should visit and inspect and take action to provide insurance cover and appropriate relief to all affected farmers.

It has been raining in the coastal districts since yesterday due to the circulation of the atmospheric mantle prevailing along the Tamil Nadu coast. Accordingly, it rained in Mayiladuthurai district, one of the coastal districts, from yesterday onwards.

It rained continuously from 4am to 9am yesterday. A maximum of 60 mm of rain was recorded in Kolli during the last 24 hours ending at 6 am yesterday. Rainfall details recorded in other parts of the district are as follows: – Sirkazhi-44, Mayiladuthurai-37, Manalmedu-31, Tharangambadi-11.

Over the past few days, heavy rains have submerged Rs 25,000 crore worth of paddy fields ready for harvest. Farmers are thus concerned. Thirukkadaiyur, Sivakasinthamani, Valayal Cholakan, Killiyur, Kannangudi, Kalakattalai, Vellaithidal, Pillai Perumanallur, D. in Sembanarko Union. Areas including Manalmedu, Kidangal, Akkur, Madappuram, Mamakudi and Maruthampallam were submerged due to heavy rains in the last two days. Due to the continuous rains in the above areas, the roads were flooded with rain water. Water stagnates in low-lying areas and fields. According to Ramamurthy, a farmer from Tirukkadaiyur, the samba paddy fields in the area have been affected by the recent rains. He therefore said the government should provide 100 per cent relief.
