ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Election Commission has disqualified former Prime Minister Imran Khan from public office on allegations of illegal sale of government gifts.
In Pakistan, Tehreek-e-Insaf Party leader Imran Khan was sworn in as the country’s prime minister in the 2018 general elections. Later, 24 MPs suddenly raised the war flag against him, resulting in his defeat in a no-confidence motion.
Then Imran regime was overthrown. He also resigned. In this case, Imran Khan was accused of submitting a false affidavit, engaging in corrupt practices and illegally selling government gifts received from other countries’ leaders and foreign dignitaries. Imran Khan’s lawyer Ali Zafar in the related Doshakhana case has admitted to selling gift items in 2018-19.

Gifts received by government officials should be immediately reported in the Doshakana and their value assessed. After the evaluation, after depositing the specified amount, the gift items can be taken if desired. But after Imran Khan stepped down last August, he took some gifts from the government treasury to Toshkhana without paying.
He also refused to disclose their details. In this situation, the Election Commission of the country has ordered the disqualification of Imran Khan from public office for illegally selling government gifts given to him.
