The Director General of the Federation of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Muhammad bin Abd Rabbuh Al-Yami, said in a speech during his participation in the work of the joint situation, received by the (INA), that “this workshop was held within this global initiative on girls’ education in Muslim societies.”

Al-Yami emphasized “the role of the media in raising awareness of girls’ right to education,” calling on girls to “make more effort to correct misunderstandings and biased interpretations of Sharia texts, by giving more space to allocation to address this issue, and commitment. to change what has been issued by jurisprudential authorities and academia.” accepted in the Islamic world, regarding the legal right of girls to education, to media content that is comprehensible to audiences of all knowledge levels.”

He encouraged the media to “show the achievements of Muslim women and girls, and provide models and role models based on science, leadership, and active participation in decision-making in various political, social, cultural and economic fields.”

Al-Yami called for “improving and intensifying the cultural and educational content in the media, and presenting it in a professional and accessible way, in collaboration with educational institutions and bodies, in a way that would benefit the ability of the media to deliver and simplify information. , and cross it from the narrow teaching and academic space to the wide space that recognizes no boundaries.”

Al-Yami emphasized the “readiness of the OIC Federation of News Agencies to engage the network of the Federation and its member agencies in any joint effort related to the implementation of these initiatives,” while expressing his gratitude “to the government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for the warm welcome she had and to welcome the Muslim World League for their great efforts in organizing this event.”

The roundtable meeting concluded with several recommendations, the most significant of which are: “Improving the role of the media in raising awareness of girls’ legal right to education and addressing misconceptions and misunderstandings of religion, and sufficient space allocated to approved jurisprudence references. and academia, emphasizing their support for this issue, and focusing media coverage on women’s right to education.”

He also suggested that the role of the media should be strengthened in introducing the opportunities and scholarships offered by international organizations and bodies, and delivering them to their actual recipients in communities and countries in need, while at the same time working to improve transparency in the winner selection process. scholarships, and highlighting the success that some countries have achieved in the field of women’s and girls’ education, this would encourage other countries to emulate and encourage the experience of these countries.”

The recommendations included a call to promote success stories in Muslim societies, with a focus on science-based stories, and to challenge the stereotypical images of women often promoted in the media, as well as the role of the media strengthened through journalistic investigations. and documentaries regarding the violations women are exposed to. It has women’s rights, especially the right to education.

The recommendations also included a call to build alliances between the media and the education sector by launching media campaigns to influence families and encourage them to educate girls and remove the obstacles to this goal.

Attendees cautioned that “in media dealing with false generalizations that portray particular religions or cultures as fundamentally opposed to women’s rights, focus instead on addressing the false interpretations and analyzing and understanding the social and economic contexts that sustain these interpretations, which would draw attention to them. help the societies to be free from these interpretations.”

They called for “strengthening the role of the media and social media in promoting the true tolerant values ​​of Islam, Islam’s acceptance of science and knowledge, and bringing in scholars and thinkers of Islamic civilization.”
