9699 bulls have been registered online to participate in the jallikattu competition held at three places namely Avaniyapuram, Palamedu and Alankanallur and about 1000 bulls are allowed to participate in each competition.

Cowherd Aravindharajan, who took part in the Balamedu Jallikattu and caught 9 cows, was injured and taken to the hospital after being hit by a cow. Aravindharajan died while undergoing treatment at Madurai Rajaji Government Hospital. Arvind, a spectator from Pudukottai district, died after being run over by a cow during a jallikattu competition held at Suriyur in Trichy district. He had come to see the jallikattu competition when he was run over by a cow and died.
