Pamela Anderson, the icon of the 90s thanks in particular to her iconic role in “Baywatch”, revealed a more intimate side of her life by receiving the Golden Eye Award at the Zurich Film Festival, Friday 4 October.
The 57-year-old actor spoke of a long period of darkness. “I feel like I went from Baywatch to Broadway. I don’t know what happened in between, it’s a big blur. I’m glad to be here, right now, because I think I suffered from depression for about 20 years,” she said with disarming honesty.
Surprised to receive an award in Zurich
Far from letting these difficult years consume her, Pamela looks more hopeful today than ever. Her speech gave the impression of a woman who was determined to move forward. “I never thought I would be on stage receiving an award like this. I just want to keep working. I can’t wait to do more.” Words full of promise that show a desire to pursue their career in a new light.
During her speech, the actress also talked about her latest film, “The Last Showgirl”, which tells the story of a fifty-year-old showgirl in Las Vegas, whose career ends after thirty years of service. A role she identifies with, having experienced a media and personal rocket.
“I don’t think I would have been able to play this character if I hadn’t had the life I’ve had, so it was worth it. If I can continue to work and use these trials and challenges, I will be blessed,” she said.
