Panaitolikos with a goal in the 90’+10′ beat Aris with a score of 2-1 in Agrinio, in a match for the 11th game day of the Super League.
In the presence of the head referee of KED, Stéphane Lanois, the game had three goals disallowed, one straight red card and a cross. Stoppage time was decided in the 10th minute by the “golden” substitution of Yiannis Petrakis, Christos Belevonis.
Epaminondas Pantelakis’s header (17′) was “neutralized” by the brilliant lob of Manos Garthias (41′). The Spaniard scored another great goal which was disallowed after VAR intervention, as were two from the home side. Who finally managed to take advantage of the numerical advantage they got from 75′, due to the dismissal of Lindsay Rose, with the “golden change” of Yiannis Petrakis, Christos Belevonis at 90’+10 with his “maiden” goal.
The image of the fight
The Canaries came into the game stronger, winning back-to-back corners in the opening minutes, with Daniel Lahoud and Sebastian Lomonaco troubling Jakub Brambetz and Lindsey Rose. From such a step, a corner by Yiannis Bouzoukis, the score became 1-0 for Panaitolikos.
Pantelakis was under no particular pressure and didn’t even have to jump to beat Philip Sidcliffe with a header in the 17th minute. Ten minutes later, the hosts came close to a second goal, following a counter-attack. Bouzoukis fed Miguel Luis, who laid on Lomonakos, whose shot went over the right post of the Aris goal.
Who took possession of the ball and equalized in the 41st minute without creating any great opportunities before. Jose Sifuentes found Manu García, the Spanish midfielder took the counterattack from Pantelakis and with a great grip on the ball outside the area “hung” Lucas Chavez for 1-1.
The first half ended with a phase that required VAR. From a corner from Miguel Luis, Pedro Silva Torrejon took the header and put the ball into the net. However, Lomonaco, exposed, made a display to catch the ball, and the Argentinian’s move resulted in the goal being disallowed after a review of the pitch by Stavros Tsimenteridis.
The second half started with a foul by Shapi Suleimanov, who put the ball over the right “gamma” of Lucas Chavez’s goal. Aris continued to press and in the 55th minute, Loren Moron saw his shot stopped at the bottom of the left post by Chavez, unable to react. The Spanish Super League’s top scorer threatened again seconds later, this time with a header, but missed.
The visitors (they thought) were praised for their persistence in the 63rd minute, with another dream goal from Manus Garthia. The Spanish midfielder took the ball from Sifuentes, moved forward a few meters and found the net with a right-footed volley. New on field review, with Spyros Zambalas and Angelos Evangelou calling for Tsimenteridis, and referee Kozanitis disallowing the goal for a foul on Sifuentes – he used his elbow - at the start of the phase.
When Yannis Petrakis saw the… darkness, he made changes and the home team cheered on the home team. In fact, in the 71st minute, they almost took the lead again. From stoppage time, the ball reached Torrejon who cleared the spot from the penalty spot, but Sidcliff pushed the ball away with an outstretched left foot.
Six minutes later, the numbers changed, as Rose tackled Andres Roa who was leaving Sidcliffe alone. The young Swedish goalkeeper made a fatal mistake in the 82nd minute, along with Jakub Brambetz’s careless header, as the ball ended up in the Aris net.
End; Of course not. In the tenth and last minute of stoppage time, Panaitolikos scored the winning goal, with Aris temporarily playing with nine men due to an injury to Huancar. Substitute Nikola Stajic’s deep balls, with Belevonis making the drop and sending the ball into the net for a 2-1 lead.
The successful return of the “Canaries”, who achieved 18 points, ended the unbeaten streak that “ran” from Heraklion and then Aris who will, perhaps, fall from the top after three games, depending on result of AEK and the Toumba. derby between PAOK and Olympiacos.

Interview between Time.news Editor and Football Expert on the Recent Super League Match Between Panaitolikos and Aris
Time.news Editor: Good day! Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Elena Kostas, a well-respected football analyst, to discuss the thrilling match between Panaitolikos and Aris, which ended 2-1 in favor of Panaitolikos. Thank you for joining us, Dr. Kostas!
Dr. Elena Kostas: Thank you for having me! It was an intense match, to say the least!
Editor: Absolutely! The match saw Panaitolikos clinch a last-minute victory. What were your thoughts on the overall pacing and flow of the game?
Dr. Kostas: The pace was certainly frenetic! Panaitolikos started off strong, applying pressure early on with back-to-back corners. They established control right away, and the goal by Epaminondas Pantelakis in the 17th minute showcased their offensive capabilities. However, Aris responded well, demonstrating resilience by equalizing just before half-time.
Editor: Yes, I found that equalizer from Manu García to be quite remarkable. Could you elaborate on the significance of that goal in the context of the match?
Dr. Kostas: Absolutely! That goal was pivotal. It momentarily shifted the momentum in Aris’s favor as it kept their morale high and allowed them to regroup for the second half. The fact that they were able to equalize despite a less dominant first half indicated their tenacity. It also set the stage for the dramatic second half, where both teams had opportunities to take the lead.
Editor: Speaking of the second half, there were quite a few disallowed goals, particularly from both sides. What did you think of the refereeing and the use of VAR during the match?
Dr. Kostas: The refereeing certainly sparked a lot of debate! There were three goals disallowed, which adds to the theater of the game but can also frustrate players and fans alike. The disallowed goal by Garthias, in particular, was a talking point, as the foul leading to its annulment seemed quite subjective. The use of VAR is crucial for achieving fairness, but it can also disrupt the rhythm of the match.
Editor: Indeed, controversy often surrounds VAR decisions. Another highlight for Panaitolikos was the strategic change made by coach Yiannis Petrakis. How did his substitutions affect the game’s outcome?
Dr. Kostas: Petrakis’s substitutions were a masterstroke! Bringing on Christos Belevonis at such a critical juncture proved to be decisive. His goal at 90’+10′ not only secure the win but also highlighted how effective a “golden substitution” can be. It exemplifies the importance of a coach’s tactical acumen and ability to read the game.
Editor: With the red card issued to Lindsay Rose late in the match, how do you think that impacted Aris’s chances of claiming a point?
Dr. Kostas: The dismissal of Rose undoubtedly hindered Aris’s defense. Playing with ten players meant they were under constant pressure, and by the end of the match, it left them vulnerable. It’s difficult to maintain defensive shape and composure when a team is down a man, especially in such a critical phase of the game.
Editor: what does this result mean for both teams as they progress in the Super League season?
Dr. Kostas: For Panaitolikos, this win is a huge confidence boost and can catalyze a positive momentum moving forward. Their ability to stay resilient and secure late goals could inspire them further. As for Aris, they will need to regroup quickly. Despite their strong performances, these kinds of matches can weigh heavily if they don’t bounce back. They must learn to capitalize on their chances and maintain focus to avoid similar late-game lapses.
Editor: Thank you for these insightful observations, Dr. Kostas! The match had all the drama and excitement fans love about football. We appreciate your expertise and look forward to your analyses in future matches!
Dr. Kostas: Thank you! It’s my pleasure to share my insights. Here’s to more thrilling football in the Super League!
Editor: Indeed! Until next time!
