The players of our national <a href="https://time.news/iraqi-fencers-camp-in-poland-in-preparation-for-the-thailand-asian-championship-qualifying-for-the-paris-paralympics/" title="Iraqi fencers camp in Poland in preparation for the Thailand Asian Championship qualifying for the Paris Paralympics“>Paralympic fencing team, Zain Al-Abidin Ghailan and Haider Ali Nasser, called on the authorities responsible for sports in Iraq to provide sufficient support to ensure their participation in the upcoming tournaments that qualify them for the next Games after the great level they achieved in the Paris Paralympics.
Ghailan told the (INA), today, Wednesday: “What was achieved in the Paris tournament was the result of a great effort that lasted for four years, and we were able to deservedly win the silver medal, top the world rankings, and raise Iraq’s name in this forum, which is the largest among the world championships.”
Ghailan added, “The national team is awaiting qualifying tournaments for the upcoming Los Angeles Paralympics, which require good preparation, but the cessation of financial disbursement to the federations may prevent us from preparing and perhaps participating in general.”
For his part, player Haider Ali Nasser expressed his dissatisfaction with the position of the sports sponsors regarding the modest support for the team, describing it as below expectations.
Nasser told (INA): “The support given to the fencing team was not at the level of ambition nor what was expected, as is the case with the rest of the countries participating in the Paralympics, and it was not parallel to the achievement achieved in this global forum.”
Nasser explained, “The fencing federation is suffering from financial problems, and these problems may affect the quality of preparation for the next Paralympics and may prevent us from participating in important foreign tournaments and competitions. Therefore, I call for attention to this federation and taking into consideration the results it presented at the team level in the Paris Paralympics, in the hope of achieving results.” Better in upcoming tournaments.”
