A Greenland court decided to extend the detention of Paul Watson, an American-Canadian anti-whaling activist for three more weeksawaiting possible extradition to Japan, local police reported.
Through a statement from the island, it was revealed that “Watson will continue to be detained until November 13, 2024 to guarantee his presence in relation to the decision on extradition” to Japanese territory, where he is accused of attacking whale hunters in 2010.
The court argued that the extension of his arrest is due to the possible risk of leak by the activist.
Although the request for extradition from Japan was received by the Danish Ministry of Justice at the beginning of August, it is still unknown when a decision will be made on the matter.
