Number of payment cards in circulation through the systems of banks and Azerpost LLC, at the end of September increased by 356 thousand units compared to the previous month and amounted to 18 million 923 thousand units.
Compared to the corresponding period last year, this figure increased by 18.7 percentreports Day.Az with reference to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan.
According to the information, the growth of payment cards was 20.6 percent for debit cards and 6.3 percent for credit cards.
The growth of payment cards had a positive impact on the volume of non-cash payments. Thus, over the month, the volume of non-cash transactions within the country increased 1.6 times compared to the corresponding period last year.
In September of this year, the volume of non-cash payments within the country made through payment cards amounted to 7.154 million manat. The share of electronic commerce accounts for 6.069 million manats of non-cash payments. Of the remaining amount, payments worth 1.076 million manats were made through POS terminals, and 7.7 million manats through self-service terminals.
Dynamic growth is observed in banks and payment service networks of Azerpost LLC. Thus, compared to the end of September last year, the number of ATMs increased by 3 percent, the number of POS terminals – by 26.5 percent.
