interview: Promoting Healthy Festivities in El Salvador’s Christmas pedaleada
Editor of Time.news (E): Today, we’re excited to welcome Dr. Mariana Reyes, a health and wellness expert, to discuss the Government of El Salvador’s initiative, the Christmas Pedaleada. This exciting event, scheduled for December 15th, encourages healthy activities during the festive season. Dr. Reyes, coudl you tell us more about the importance of this initiative for the Salvadoran community?
Dr. Mariana Reyes (D): Thank you for having me! The Christmas Pedaleada is a fantastic way to engage the community in physical activity, especially during the holidays when people tend to indulge in less healthy behavior. This initiative promotes not only physical health but also mental well-being as participants enjoy the outdoors and socialize.
E: The event is set to take place at Bicentenario Park and Monseñor Romero Boulevard, starting from 8:00 am. What can participants expect from the activities planned for the day?
D: Participants can look forward to a vibrant atmosphere filled with various activities! Besides the cycling tour that starts at Jerusalem Avenue and goes through Masferrer Avenue, Bicentenario Park will host inflatable games, Christmas dance shows, and face painting, making it a family-friendly event. Additionally, the Plaza on Monseñor Romero Boulevard will feature an outdoor cinema, Christmas photo booths, and dance master classes, providing fun for all ages.
E: Sounds like a great way to spend a Saturday! What advice would you give to those preparing to participate in the Christmas Pedaleada?
D: I recommend participants start preparing now. Regular cycling practise will help build endurance. It’s also essential to stay hydrated, especially in December’s warmer weather. Come dressed comfortably, and don’t forget to bring sunscreen! Most importantly, maintain a festive spirit—this is about enjoying the activity and community.
E: beyond just the day of the event, what wider implications do you see for such initiatives in promoting public health in El Salvador?
D: Initiatives like the Christmas Pedaleada not only encourage immediate physical activity but also foster lifelong habits. They raise awareness about the importance of staying active and healthy, especially during festive times when sitting down for feasts is common. Events like this can pave the way for future programs that prioritize health in urban planning and community initiatives.

D: I encourage everyone to participate and bring their families! This event can be a turning point for many to embrace more active lifestyles. Let’s spread the word and make this Christmas Pedaleada a memorable and impactful experience for the whole community.
