Pedro López ended his time as a Levante footballer in June 2019, but it only took him two years to return to what he will always consider his home. It was not to run on the right side of the Ciutat de València, but to perform the role of assistant in the coaching staff after killing, with the help of Huesca, the bug to continue dressing short. However, his place in the world is found in those corners where Levante is the center of attention. Where it is a reason for both struggle and pride. After two decades fighting for his dream of being a footballer, Pedro López’s daily life is based, just as he did during his time as a Granota player, on giving everything for the shield that produces so many feelings in him.

«For me Levante is my team, it is my club and it is my home. When I came here in 2011 and experienced everything I experienced, the years go by and you develop a love for the club that, thank God, I was able to extend as a player and now as an assistant. Even my children are from the Levant. I feel privileged to be here. Being inside and being able to defend Levante is a luxury for me,” said the man born in Torrent, who greatly values the tranquility, and even the anonymity, that his position grants him. «When you play on a professional team you are much more exposed. I have never liked the limelight, I have not handled it well. I’m really enjoying not being in the spotlight. “I also wanted to have that peace of mind.”

Pedro López, immersed in his third year as a coaching staff assistant, puts in many hours at the Buñol Sports City so that his work has an impact on the first team. Accompanied by the rest of the members of Javi Calleja’s work group, the Valencian is in charge of preparing the training sessions, carrying out tasks, seeing if the players perform them correctly, polishing the mistakes and editing videos of the rivals so that the granotas know which ones they should be. their patterns of action. After the games, make different reports and analyze both the moments with and without the ball. Pedro lives every day intensely, but he always has time to look back and remember everything he experienced in eight years as a Levante player.

The glory that Levante showed while Pedro López defended his colors contrasts with what he has suffered since he became an assistant to the first team coaching staff: a relegation to the Second Division as painful as it was agonizing and a non-promotion to the football elite Spanish as tragic as it is cruel. Despite this, Pedro López is optimistic. He has a feeling that, sooner rather than later, football will give back to Levante everything it has taken from it. Not only does he dream it, but he gives his “soul” to achieve it with a dedicated and committed coaching staff. «Since I returned we have only had misfortunes. The spirit of Levante has been to get up and, each one from their position, fight. What happened in Alavés is the worst and saddest thing we have all experienced, but we don’t have to regret it or give up. Now I’m screwed, but I’m going to live, just as I did as a player, good times in the Levante coaching staff. I am convinced. I see the players training with tremendous enthusiasm. Javi Calleja prepares the matches with the enthusiasm of a little child. He is very demanding and very methodical. And we are all very involved. Why not? “We must insist,” concluded Pedro López, proud of his past at Orriols and convinced that he will experience new successes during his time as his assistant.
