A Pennsylvania couple had a big surprise when they discovered that their 7-year-old golden-doodle dog, Cecil, had torn into pieces $4,000 in cash that was lying on the kitchen counter. Kerry Lou of Pittsburgh said the money was intended to pay for yard renovations, and was scattered around the room after Cecil tore up and swallowed parts of it.

Lu and her husband Clayton were very surprised, as the dog had never destroyed things in the house. They told Fox News that he is a nice, 45-pound dog who likes to lean on people and get belly rubs. They called the vet, who said that as long as Cecil was feeling good and defecating normally, he was probably fine. And he did spend the rest of the day playing, napping and watching TV.

At night Kerry and Clayton heard the sounds of vomiting, and discovered that Cecil had vomited a large portion of the money. They collected the bills, cleaned them and dried them to see how much they could save. They even followed him in the yard and collected what came out of him. So far they have managed to find about 3,500 dollars and return it to the bank, after gluing together torn bills and showing that they have most of the serial number. There are still about 350 to 400 dollars left in a plastic bag, but they are only parts of bills that can no longer be saved.

The couple told Fox News that they will probably frame some of the torn bills as souvenirs because it’s a funny and weird situation. Cecil seemed perfectly healthy and they never got mad at him, just laughed at this strange case where their dog has thousands of dollars in his stomach and they can’t do anything about it.
