At the same time, according to Peskov, despite the political strife, Russians and Ukrainians will forever remain fraternal peoples. “The fraternal people cannot be lost, they remain a fraternal people <...> Yes, the authorities [Украины] they can try to fool their people, instill hatred for Russians, for Russia, deprive them of the opportunity to receive information at first hand, from our media. You can prohibit our media, you can prohibit our Internet resources, but all the same, the two fraternal peoples cannot lose each other, ”said the presidential press secretary.

On December 14, VTsIOM published a poll according to which only 29% of Russians surveyed consider Ukraine a fraternal country. At the same time, the answers that Ukraine for Russia is a source of threat and a friendly country scored 12% each. Another 26% considered that Ukraine is just a neighbor for Russia. The remaining 9% called Ukraine a hostile country, and for 4% it is a strategic partner. Only 1% of respondents considered the neighboring state a competitor to Russia.
