Starting this year, and in Israel next year, Peugeot vehicles (and subsequently all PSA models probably) will be equipped with a new 1.2 L Turbo FireTech engine, which actually succeeded the 1.2 L engine that has been in place for several years. This is important technological news that guarantees not only higher durability, but also increased performance, certain fuel economy and reduced pollutant emissions, among other things due to the use of a micro hybrid system with a 48V battery, electric motor, generator starter and a brand new dual clutch gearbox.
The new 1.2 L turbo engine produces a little more power than its predecessor, with an increase to 136 hp instead of 130 hp, 24 kgm from 1750 rpm, when instead of an 8-speed automatic transmission it is paired with a six-speed transmission Dual-clutch speeds, to which a 28 hp electric motor was also attached. The battery, which is charged while driving, gives the vehicle more immediate torque availability at low rpm, a reduction in fuel consumption by 15% and a symbolic drop to 126 gcm emissions Pollutants instead of 128 cc in the previous engine.
Peugeot states that the significant advantage of the engine lies in the reduction of fuel consumption in urban driving by 1-2%, and that at a speed of over 145 km/h, a “cruise” system is activated that disconnects the combustion engine when the accelerator pedal is released and at the same time the braking/deceleration of the vehicle returns Energy to the battery When overtaking is required under loads, the electric assist produces a small “overboost” of 12 hp to complete any sudden maneuver safely.

The solution to this now comes in the form of using a cast iron timing chain, whose maintenance is at much larger intervals (depending on the manufacturer’s instructions), and for the most part, in normal use of several years, there is no need to replace it, but only to check that it is fit and that the parts in it are working correctly.
The first models that will be available with the new engine are the 3008 and 5008, which will also have a separate display in the menu system to indicate the battery and electrical performance. In addition, the manufacturer says, all electrified models will be updated with an external voice warning mechanism at a speed of up to 30 km/h to warn pedestrians, due to the silence of the electric motor. It was also stated that no storage space was sacrificed in the trunk or the passenger compartment and that the warranty framework is eight years or 160 thousand km for the electrical assemblies.
Down the road we will see this combination as mentioned in all Peugeot, Citroen models, probably also Opel, and according to the importer David Lubinski will make aliyah to Israel in 2024.
