jpnn.com – Member of the DPR RI from the PKS Sukamta faction supports the Indonesian government under President Prabowo Subianto if it wants to join the international organization BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
The signal for Indonesia’s joining emerged after Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono attended the BRICS Plus Summit in Russia, Thursday (24/10) local time.
Sukamta said that the move to join BRICS was in line with Indonesia’s political principles of being free to be active and strengthening its position as an economic country.
“Indonesia must continue to expand international cooperation and strengthen its position in various world economic forums,” said the Deputy Chair of the PKS Fraction in the DPR RI via a messaging service, Thursday.
According to Sukamta, BRICS offers various strategic opportunities for Indonesia because the organization is comprised of five influential economic countries in the world.
“This also opens the way for technology transfer and innovation that can support domestic development, infrastructure and industry,” he said.
After all, said Sukamta, BRICS represents fast-growing economic markets. If Indonesia joins, it will have broad access to non-traditional markets, such as Brazil, Russia and South Africa.
“This diversification is important to reduce dependence on key markets in the West, especially in the midst of global economic uncertainty,” said the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) alumnus.
