Police Chief Deshabandu Tennakoon has said that more than 7500 policemen have been deployed to ensure security nationwide ahead of the New Year.
The Chief of Police also mentioned that this step has been taken to ensure the safety of the people as terrorist and terrorist attacks often happen unexpectedly worldwide.

“Due to the corona virus in the last 2020 and 2021, and then the economic crisis in 2022 and 2023, people did not celebrate Chitrai New Year in large numbers for about 4 years.

In the capital Colombo and other major cities, a large number of people have gathered to buy items and clothes for the New Year.
Special transport arrangement
Also, the Sri Lankan Transport Board has made special transport arrangements due to the large number of people going from the capital to their native places.
These special transport services were started from yesterday (11). The upcoming 15th has been declared as a public holiday.
Therefore, special transport facilities have been arranged from the 15th for the return of the people who have gone to their native places from Colombo.
