The Polisario Front has indicated this Thursday that it has observed “progress” in its demands before the European Justice to challenge the agreements with Morocco, after the recommendation of the Attorney General of the EU proposed to the court to annul the Council decision by which enters into a fishing agreement.

Even so, he stressed that “in this legal battle that began ten years ago, great progress has been made” and that “the admissibility of the judicial actions of the Sahrawi people is no longer being discussed,” he says in a statement.

“The Attorney General takes up the arguments of the Polisario Front on the right to self-determination and the right to permanent sovereignty over natural resources. All of this is part of a jurisprudence favorable to the Sahrawi people, which is confirmed step by step,” he highlighted. .

The Attorney General of the EU has proposed this Thursday to the CJEU that the Council decision celebrating the association agreement for sustainable fishing with Morocco be annulled, considering that it violates the principle of self-determination of the territory of Western Sahara by not treating it as “separate and distinct” from Morocco.

However, the same Advocate General indicates, on the other hand, that the General Court made an error by annulling the decision approving, on behalf of the EU, a preferential tariff agreement with Morocco relating to the territory of Western Sahara, Therefore, he proposes overturning said sentence. In this second case, the Attorney General concludes that the preferential tariff agreement does treat the territory of Western Sahara as separate and distinct.

For its part, the Government of Morocco has responded by urging EU countries to assume their responsibilities with the agreements reached and to reject possible “blackmail” and “political maneuvers” in reference to these processes open in European Justice.
