Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani confirmed today, Tuesday, that pollution is the result of wrong policies in dealing with projects, while pointing out that the Nahrawan brick factories are a hotbed of emissions.
The Prime Minister’s Media Office said in a statement received by the (INA): The Prime Minister spoke at the beginning of the forty-second Council of Ministers session held today, on the issue of air pollution in the city of Baghdad, indicating that “the committee in charge submitted its report on this matter.” Reviewing the number of measures taken by the government within the framework of preserving the environment, he stressed that “environmental challenges are at the forefront of the challenges facing the country today.”
The Prime Minister added – according to the statement – that “pollution doubles the challenges of climate change, and is the result of wrong policies in dealing with projects that contribute to pollution,” stressing that “state agencies are working to reduce pollution by emphasizing instructions and regulations that protect the environment.”
He continued, “We have begun to reduce gas burning, and we will continue to zero gas burning by 2028, and stop the emission of greenhouse gases, especially in oil-producing governorates. We have formed a committee regarding waste recycling and electricity generation, and we have begun working through the Baghdad Municipality, the Investment Authority, and in communication with foreign companies.” “.
The Prime Minister stated that “the brick factories in Nahrawan are a hotbed of pollution emissions, and must be converted to using gas or transported outside Baghdad,” while stressing “the commitment to implement the recommendations and allocate the necessary funds to the Ministry of Environment in order to accomplish what is required of it.”
He pointed out that “the Ministry of Environment, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, must review the projects adopted by the government in its program to address pollution,” noting that “in order to provide green cover, we went to the land of Al-Rashid Camp, as Baghdad needs green spaces, and we provided returns to investors in order to establish the project.” He pointed out that “the Baghdad Metro project is part of the solutions, and these projects represent a qualitative leap in the issue of treating pollution, and we directed the ministries and concerned authorities to speed up their completion.”
