Things are not looking good for the porcelain manufacturer Rosenthal. Low sales and increased costs are forcing the traditional company to lay off many employees.

The Bavarian porcelain manufacturer Rosenthal from Selb is a traditional company with more than 140 years of company history. But customers are buying less porcelain, but production costs are still rising. Now Rosenthal has to cut 100 of 700 jobs, a spokeswoman confirmed this to BR.

The company cites the tense economic situation as the main reason. Savings measures and restructuring would not have helped to save Rosenthal’s economic situation. That’s why the company will have to negotiate with the works council in the coming weeks as to which positions need to be cut.

Both the production sites in Selb and Speichersdorf as well as the headquarters in Selb are affected. The first results should be available by June 30th. It is unclear whether one of the two locations will even have to be closed. However, Rosenthal is sticking to Germany as a location.
