Kambam, – In the process of replacing the damaged pipe at Suruliyar power station, the work of painting the 2900 m long pipe five times is going on briskly.

The water collected in the highways, Manalaru and Venniaru dams is brought to the Iravankalaru dam through a tunnel, and from there a generator generates 35 MW of electricity at the Suruliyar power station in the Vannathipara forest.

There is a height of 981 meters from Irangalar Dam to Vannathi Rock Power Station. But in this a pipeline has been laid to bring water to a length of 2900 meters.

This power station was inaugurated in 1978 by late Chief Minister MGR. It is the only hydroelectric plant that generates electricity on demand during summer.

Last Sep 2021 4 The pipeline was damaged when water was turned on for power generation. Shut down for 18 months without power generation.

Pipe repair work is in progress. A new pipe is being laid at the broken point only for a length of 220 meters. The rest of the tube is unchanged.

But for the length of 2900 m, painting is done throughout the pipeline. Interior and exterior painting 5 times (five coats) is going on in full swing. Two coats of primer and three coats of dark paint are also applied. Power sources said that the 220 meter long pipeline to be installed is being designed to high standards and will be installed soon.
