Greece’s leading power provider, Public Power Corporation (PPC), has gained the green light from Romania’s Competition Council for a strategic acquisition. PPC will take ownership of the five entities behind Europe’s largest onshore wind farm, situated in Fântânele-Cogealac, eastern Romania.
This move will significantly bolster PPC’s renewable energy footprint in Romania, increasing its production capacity from the current 677 MW. The acquired companies, active participants in Romania’s green certificate support program, will further strengthen PPC’s portfolio of sustainable energy assets.
The five companies – Felix Renewable Holdings, Tomis Team, Ovidiu Development, MW Team Invest, and TMK Hydorenergy Power – collectively contribute an impressive 629 MW of renewable energy to the region.
Following a meticulous analysis, the Competition Council concluded that the acquisition posed no substantial threat to competition within the Romanian market. The decision underlined the transaction’s alignment with a thriving competitive environment.
PPC, already a dominant force in Southeast Europe, has been steadily expanding its presence in the region through strategic acquisitions. This includes the purchase of Enel’s Romanian assets, as well as investments in North Macedonia.
