DMH: It highlights a connection between security and economic viability. A robust police force ensures law and order, wich is crucial for creating an environment where businesses and citizens can thrive. Without security, especially in a diverse nation like Indonesia, economic progress can stagnate and will be vulnerable to external threats.
TNE: the recent regional Police Headquarters Call had the theme “The Precise Role of the Police in Supporting the 2024 National Agenda to Achieve Internal Security.” Why is this theme significant?
DMH: This theme is significant as it aligns policing efforts with national objectives. The police must not only enforce laws but also actively contribute to broader agendas like economic development and social cohesion. Evaluating their duties, as emphasized in this annual meeting, allows for adaptability in strategies to better serve the public and protect national interests.
TNE: President Prabowo also mentioned the need for “strong, militant, professional police.” What skills or training do you believe the police should focus on to meet these expectations?

TNE: how can citizens contribute to the creation of a secure environment as discussed in the President’s directive?
DMH: Citizens play a vital role. They should feel empowered to report suspicious activities and engage in community policing initiatives. Education on legal rights and responsibilities can also create a proactive rather than reactive culture around safety and security. A society that works with its police can achieve much more than one that remains disengaged.
