This Saturday, President Nayib Bukele questioned the credibility of the criticism of the former president of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, who alleges that human rights have been violated in El Salvador during the fight against gangs, since, as the president recalled, when “She was president of Chile, she arrived in El Salvador in 2015 (the year we became the most dangerous country in the world) and she praised the government at that time.”

President Bukele believes that human rights organizations “actually only exist to defend the rights of criminals,” as he stated on his official X account.

Bukele questioned Bachelet’s position that was expressed through “Bio Bio Chile”, which refers to statements made by the former UN commissioner last Thursday in Guatemala.

Bachelete praised the 2015 administration in El Salvador, when the country was listed as the most violent country in the world, however, now that it is positioned as the safest in the Western Hemisphere, the former commissioner criticizes President Bukele’s security strategy that It has allowed more than 81,000 gang members who threatened the population to be taken off the streets.

“Now he criticizes El Salvador, when we are the safest country in the Western Hemisphere,” criticized the Salvadoran president.

Currently, President Bukele has an approval level of 89% among the Salvadoran population, according to CID Gallup. This qualification is attributed to the public security strategy that includes the emergency regime, through which it managed to dismantle the gangs in El Salvador, and as a result, reduce the daily average of homicides in the country.
