President Gustavo Petro received the Principal Deputy National Security Advisor of the United States, Jon Finer, with the objective of strengthening cooperation on a wide range of bilateral and regional issues that characterize the strategic relationship between both countries.

During the meeting, Colombia and the United States reaffirmed their continued commitment to strengthening regional competitiveness and increasing investment through the Alliance for Economic Prosperity in the Americas.

President Petro and Councilor Finer ratified the commitment of both countries to address international migration irregularly in a safe, orderly and humane manner, through a regional approach. In addition, they analyzed joint efforts, framed in the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection.

In another crucial aspect, President Petro and Councilor Finer agreed on the importance of accelerating the implementation of the 2016 Peace Agreement, which will strengthen access to security, democratic institutions and economic opportunities for all Colombians. Likewise, they discussed the status of the ongoing peace negotiations between the Government and armed groups, a priority for the Colombian president.

Finally, President Petro and Councilor Finer held a dialogue about the situation in Venezuela. Both reaffirmed the importance of implementing all elements of the Barbados Agreement and working together with all parties to comply with the agreed electoral roadmap.
