Interview: Time.news Editor and Diplomatic Expert Anwar Abbas on Youth Engagement Initiatives
Time.news Editor: Good afternoon, everyone! Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with Anwar Abbas, a recognized expert in diplomatic relations, particularly focused on youth engagement initiatives. Anwar, thank you for joining us.
Anwar Abbas: Thank you for having me! It’s a pleasure to be here.
Editor: Let’s dive right in. Recently, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Pakistan, Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Saleem Al-Zabi, announced exciting initiatives for the youth, including the “Run through the Sands of Time” marathon. What are your thoughts on this event’s significance?
Abbas: The “Run through the Sands of Time” marathon is more than just a sporting event; it symbolizes the UAE’s commitment to fostering relationships with Pakistani youth. Events like this promote healthy activities and create opportunities for cultural exchange. This is essential, especially in building a positive perception of Pakistan abroad.
Editor: Absolutely! It sounds like an excellent initiative. In your opinion, how do such events influence the international image of Pakistan?
Abbas: They play a crucial role. When the youth of Pakistan participate in such events, it showcases their enthusiasm, energy, and potential. By highlighting these activities at an international level, it combats stereotypes and emphasizes the peaceful and vibrant nature of the Pakistani populace. This positive portrayal can significantly alter how countries perceive Pakistan.
Editor: That’s an interesting perspective. You mentioned cultural exchange. Could you elaborate on how events like this facilitate cultural interactions?
Abbas: Certainly! Events like marathons draw not only local participants but also international attendees. This creates a melting pot of ideas and cultures. Participants might share experiences, engage in discussions about their countries, and foster friendships that transcend borders. Such interactions lead to greater understanding and appreciation among nations.
Editor: It seems like there’s a lot of potential for collaboration and positivity! Considering the current global landscape, how important is it for embassies to invest in youth programs?
Abbas: It is paramount. Young people are the leaders of tomorrow. By investing in their development, embassies nurture a future generation that is informed, engaged, and interconnected. Moreover, these programs can counteract negative perceptions and foster diplomacy through grassroots engagement. The more active and engaged our youth become, the more resilient and cooperative international relations will be in the future.
Editor: You touched on the concept of diplomacy through grassroots engagement. How can other countries follow the UAE’s lead in promoting similar initiatives?
Abbas: Other nations can certainly learn from the UAE’s approach. First, they should identify the unique cultural and social aspects of their relationship with host countries. Then, they can create events that resonate with the youth’s interests—sports, art, education, or technology initiatives. Collaborating with local organizations can also amplify their reach and impact.
Editor: It’s clear that these initiatives are multifaceted and beneficial. What would you say to the youth who wish to get involved in such activities?
Abbas: I would encourage them to participate actively! Whether it’s through motivational events like marathons or cultural exhibitions, involvement provides invaluable experiences. It also allows them to foster connections across cultures and contribute to strengthening bilateral relationships.
Editor: Well said, Anwar! Thank you for shedding light on this vital topic and the importance of youth engagement in diplomacy. It’s been a pleasure having you here.
Abbas: Thank you! I appreciate the opportunity to discuss this important subject.
