The government has condemned the killing of Kamal Hossain by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on the border of Comilla Sadar Dakshin Upazila.
The protest letter sent to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka on Wednesday (October 9) also demanded that all border killings be investigated and those responsible brought to justice.
In a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is said that the Bangladesh government is calling on the Indian government to prevent the repetition of such cruel acts, to investigate all border incidents, to identify those responsible and to bring them to justice.
Expressing deep concern over the incident, Bangladesh said such incidents are recurring despite repeated promises by the Indian government to reduce border killings to ‘zero levels’.
The Bangladesh government has insisted that such incidents of border killings are unwanted and uncalled for. Such activities violate the provisions of the Joint India-Bangladesh Guidelines for Border Authorities, 1975.
Earlier, Kamal Hussain (32) was killed by BSF firing inside India near Jashpur BOP of Paharpur village in Goliara North Union of Sadar Dakshin Upazila at around 7 pm on Monday (October 7). Later his body was taken away by BSF.
The deceased Kamal is the son of Idu Mia of Kuriapara village of Sadar Dakshin Upazila.
According to local sources, Kamal entered India illegally by crossing Paharpur border on Monday evening. He was killed there by BSF firing. Later BSF personnel took his body in an ambulance. Locals said that Kamal used to break ant nests and sell eggs at different places.
