Rabbi Chaim Druckman, one of the senior rabbis of religious Zionism, publicly supported the Chief Rabbi, Rishon LeZion Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Yitzchak Yosef, after a letter from retired judge Uri Shoham: “Shocked by his impudence.”

As was first revealed in Kikar Hashabbat, the Ombudsman for Judges, Justice Uri Shoham, called on the Minister of Religious Affairs, Matan Kahana, to consider removing Geri Yosef from his position as judge of the Great Court, due to the harsh criticism he leveled against religious and state reforms.

Rabbi Druckman spoke last night in response to their words and said: “I am shocked by the impudence of retired judge Uri Shaham towards Rishon Lezion. Even if this is due to the ignorance of retired judge Uri Shaham – it is extremely serious.”

Rabbi Druckman called on the retired judge to say: “First of all, to learn what the Dayan’s duty is in Israel, and then it will become clear to him that everything related to strengthening Judaism – the Dayan’s duty to engage in it, and certainly the President of the Great Court.

He said: “I tend to judge everyone fairly, so I refer to the case of retired judge Uri that they all stemmed from ignorance about the role of Dayan in Israel, but he should at least apologize and apologize to the Rishon LeZion.”

At the decision center, Judge Shoham:

• Prohibition on Rabbi Yosef Hagar Yosef expressing a position on matters under his authority: conversions and kosher.

• Recommendation to Minister Matan Kahana to reprimand the Prime Minister for expressing an opinion on religious reforms promoted by the government.

• Consider dismissing the Chief of Staff from his position as Dayan.

• Prohibition on Israeli judges attending Chief Rabbinate conventions.

Remember, The President of the Great Court, Chief Rabbi Gaon Rabbi David Lau, rejected Judge Shoham’s recommendations: The role of a chief rabbi is to express the position of halakhah and to uphold “you shall not live before anyone.”

The Minister of Religious Affairs, Matan Kahana, also rejected the recommendations of Justice Shoham and wrote: They will lose the trust of their audience and listen to them. “
