– You were injured before the European Championships, which took place in the capital of Romania, Bucharest, and recently underwent surgery. How are you feeling now?
– The injury affected my performance a year before the European Championships. However, I tried my best. After the European Championships, I was offered to go to a training camp in Vladikavkaz. Because there is a licensed tournament ahead of us and this is a difficult test. After that, I had an operation in one of the clinics in Baku. This is not a big operation, but a micro operation. I think it was a success. This does not affect my training at this time. Now I feel in optimal shape and well.
– After an unsuccessful performance at the European Championships, you even published a publication about it. What moment bothered you the most?
– Unfortunately, some people can simply speak without understanding. They had meaningless conversations. Of course, the interesting thing about sports is that you don’t win every tournament. This is a normal thing. We rejoice so much at the moment of victory because of defeats. I never like to make excuses when I lose. But it is appropriate to talk about real facts. Because I see that such things happen when some people, without understanding, have unethical and uninteresting conversations. Due to this, I had to report my injury. The injury prevented me from performing in full optimal shape. But before the European Championships I was in good shape. I thought that the European Championship would be successful. An injury I suffered just a day before the competition robbed me of my fourth European gold.
– What can you say about the European Olympic qualifying tournament in Baku?
– My expectations from my teammates are high from Nikhat Mammadli in the 60 kg weight category. He is a young, promising and at the same time full of energy athlete. Has good technique. He showed this at the European Championships. I think he should get a license here. Murad Akhmadiev, weighing 97 kg, is a very dangerous athlete. He uses very good feints. He is currently one of the young athletes challenging his peers on the international stages. I think he can get a license too. Beka Kandelaki (130 kg) also showed at the last European Championship that he is worthy of receiving a license. I hope that these athletes will receive a license, please our people, and we will compete at the Olympic Games in full force.
– What is the advantage of holding competitions in your own walls?
– Unlike other sports, our arenas are always full of wrestlers. I hope it will be the same this time. Tickets were made as cheap as possible to make them affordable. From here I want to inform every viewer and every fan that they should not leave our team and be with us. Our athletes need this kind of support. It is thanks to this support that they fight well in their home arenas. Let’s hope that our viewers and fans will not leave our team and together we will win licenses for the Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024.
