According to the Department of Meteorology, rain and wind conditions are expected to continue in the western and southern coastal areas and in the southwestern part of the country due to the prevailing south-westerly monsoon.
Occasional rain or thundershowers are possible over Upper, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces and Galle and Matara districts.
Heavy rainfall of more than 100 mm is expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa province and Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
It is expected to rain several times in North and North Central Provinces.
In the western slopes of the central highlands, there is a possibility of strong wind speed up to 60 km per hour from time to time and in the North, North Central, Upper, North West and South provinces there is a possibility that the wind speed may increase up to 50 km per hour from time to time.
Wind: Winds are expected to blow from west to south-westerly in coastal areas surrounding the country and the wind speed is expected to reach 30-40 kmph.
The wind speed is likely to increase to 60-70 kmph from time to time in offshore areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil through Colombo, Galle and Ambantota. Wind speed is likely to increase to 50-60 kmph from Puttalam to Batticaloa through Mannar, Kangesandurai and Trincomalee to Batticaloa.
Sea Level: The offshore seas from Mannar through Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Ambandottai to Pottuvil are very rough. Offshore from Puttalam to Batticaloa through Mannar, Kangesandurai and Trincomalee will be rough from time to time. Other beaches surrounding the country have moderate tides.
Sea waves up to 2.5 – 3.5 meters high are likely to be seen in offshore areas from Mannar through Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Ambantota to Pottuvil.
Therefore, the seafarers and fishing community are advised to refrain from engaging in activities in offshore waters from Mannar through Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Ambandottai to Pottuvil until further notice.
