RAM and Safran strengthen their partnership in aircraft engine maintenance

Signed by the Chairman and CEO of Royal Air Maroc, Hamid Addou, and the President of Safran Aircraft Engines, JeanPaul Alary, this MoU marks the continued growth of the current Safran Aircraft Engines Services Maroc (SAESM) site, including an increase in its capacity of 2,000 m2 additional for an investment of 30 million dirhams (MDH) and making it possible to increase the number of maintenance operations from 70 to 100 “shop visits” per year by 2026 as well as the creation of 100 jobs.

This expansion will enable SAESM to strengthen its position as a center of excellence for the CFM56 engine range within Safran’s global maintenance and repair (MRO) network, offering airlines a complete range of services covering the entire maintenance process, from diagnosis to performance guarantee on the test bench.

Developed by Safran Aircraft Engines and GE Aerospace as part of their joint company, CFM56 engines equip the majority of aircraft in the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 families with more than 33,000 delivered.

“Today we are inaugurating a new phase of our partnership which dates back to 1999 with the manufacturer Safran. Beyond the extension of the Casablanca site, this agreement will strengthen our expertise in the aeronautical industry,” declared Mr. . Addou, welcoming the contribution of RAM, alongside Safran, to the development of the aeronautical industry in Morocco and to further position Morocco in the global aeronautical industry.

The signing of the MoU offers a clear perspective of the future, with an expected increase in the number of “shop visits” per year, from 70 to 100. In addition, this collaboration will also allow Morocco to turn to the drivers of new generation developed by Safran, thus strengthening the country’s position on the strategic map of the aeronautical industry.

To support this development, he added, the company also plans to recruit around a hundred people by 2026, bringing the overall workforce to 350 people. It will rely on structuring local academic partnerships, supported by RAM and Safran Aircraft Engines, for the development of MRO expertise in Morocco.

For his part, Mr. Alary maintained that Safran Aircraft Engines benefits in Morocco from an ecosystem of skills at the highest level and adapted to the strong industrial challenges on the CFM56.

“Since its creation 25 years ago, SAESM has become a benchmark in our global MRO network in terms of operational excellence, capacity for innovation and reduction of its carbon footprint,” he said.

In order to help reduce CO2 emissions from Safran installations, the site is investing in the installation of photovoltaic panels on the roof and shade structures in the parking lot, with the aim of achieving a volume of renewable energy of 30% from 2025.

On this occasion, which coincides with the 25th anniversary of its creation, Safran Aircraft Engine Services Morocco (SAESM), a joint company between Safran Aircraft Engines and Royal Air Maroc, inaugurated the extension of its Nouaceur site, located in the Mohammed V airport in Casablanca
