“After examining the reports from the departments responsible for daily monitoring of the markets for the most consumed products, the Commission affirms that the markets are still well supplied with a diversified offer, without recording any shortage of basic products,” indicated the Directorate of Competition, Prices and Compensation of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, in a press release on the 2nd meeting of this commission during this sacred month.
Regarding prices, they remained generally stable, with a downward trend for certain products, in particular those experiencing increased demand during this holy month such as vegetables, fruits, meat and fish, adds the same source.
Compared to the start of the month of Ramadan, price reductions were recorded for certain vegetables, varying between 2.5% and 8%, with an average price of basic vegetables oscillating between 4 and 7 dirhams per kilogram, specifies the press release, noting that for certain fruits, the reductions vary between 2% and 3%.
The prices of red meat also saw a slight drop, in particular for beef, the press release said, recalling that the government continues to suspend customs duties on imports of cattle intended for slaughter in order to strengthen the national offer.
In the same context, the prices of white meat, which had experienced increases at the start of Ramadan, recorded significant drops exceeding 5%, with an average selling price of live poultry of 20.50 dirhams per kilogram against 22 dirhams per kilogram at the start of the month of Ramadan.
To meet the significant demand for fish during the month of Ramadan and to guarantee a supply at reasonable prices on the national market, high quality frozen fish were made available to citizens at preferential prices in several points of sale. sales across 23 cities nationwide, the press release continued.
This initiative, which takes place every month of Ramadan in coordination between the Department of Maritime Fisheries, the Ministry of the Interior and players in the sector, has had a positive impact on the supply of fish, particularly in periods of scarcity due under certain weather conditions, underlines the Management.
And note that price drops were also recorded for certain varieties of fish, varying between 8.7% for shrimp and 2.5% for sardines.
The Commission continues to work during the month of Ramadan to monitor market developments, the supply situation and prices and to confront all forms of fraud, monopoly, speculation and price manipulation, assert the Direction.
This commission met under the chairmanship of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, in the presence of representatives of the ministerial departments responsible for the Interior, Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries, Industry and Commerce, of the Energy Transition and the public establishments concerned.
