Rare pink palm fish spotted in Australia for the first time in 20 years

Off the coast of Tasmania, for the first time in 22 years, a rare “walking” palm fish, which lives only in Australia, was seen.

The pink tame fish was last seen off the coast of Tasmania by a diver off the coast of Tasmania in 1999, and on other occasions only four times.

Fearing for his survival, officials recently classified him as critically endangered.

But Australian researchers say they found it again on a deep-sea camera footage taken earlier this year at a marine park.

The new vision shows fish in deeper and more open waters than before.

Scientists thought this fish was a shallow-water species that lived in sheltered bays, but now it has been found 150 m (390 ft) off the wild southern coast of Tasmania.

“This is an exciting discovery and offers hope for the continued survival of pink palm fish, as it is clear that they have a wider habitat and distribution than previously thought,” said lead researcher and marine biologist Neville Barrett, assistant professor at the University of Tasmania.
