According to a report, Red Bull‘s deal with Jürgen Klopp has been in place for two years. The now deceased company founder Dietrich Mateschitz is said to have set it up.
Jürgen Klopp’s sensational commitment as Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull was apparently decided on a long time ago. As the media group “Münchner Merkur/tz” reports, the now deceased Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz is said to have arranged the deal with Klopp in September 2022. At that time, Klopp was still active as team manager of Liverpool FC and there was never any indication that he would say goodbye.
According to this information, Klopp also canceled all coaching offers that came to him this summer, knowing that he would be taking up a new job from January 2025. He announced his departure after the season from Liverpool, where he won the Champions League, the championship title and the FA Cup in nine years, in January 2024, citing fatigue as the reason.
Helmut Marko, a future colleague of Klopp’s as a motorsport consultant for Red Bull, expressed his disbelief: “It’s unbelievable how such a mega deal could remain secret for so long,” he told “Münchner Merkur/tz”: “In Formula 1 That would never have been possible.”
