The Houston Rockets and guard Jalen Green have agreed to a three-year, $106-million extension to his rookie contract, ESPN’s Shams Charania reports, citing Green’s CAA agents.

The deal will include a third-year player option, according to the report.

Green, 22, is approaching his fourth NBA season. The Rockets selected Green with the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft after the Detroit Pistons selected Cade Cunningham first overall.

A 6-foot-4 guard, Green has averaged 19.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 42.1% from the field and 33.7% from 3-point distance in three NBA seasons. He initially signed a four-year, $40.8 million contract as a rookie.

Shortly after Green’s deal was reported, teammate and fellow member of the same rookie class Alperen Şengün also struck a contract extension with the Rockets. He reached a five-year, $185 million deal with the organization. Şengün averaged a career-high 21.1 points and 9.3 rebounds last season in Houston.

Green and Şengün join Cade Cunningham (Pistons), Evan Mobley (Cavaliers), Scottie Barnes (Raptors), Jalen Suggs (Magic), Franz Wagner (Magic), Moses Moody (Warriors), Trey Murphy III (Pelicans), Corey Kispert (Wizards) and Jalen Johnson (Hawks) in having agreed to extensions from the rookie class of 2021 ahead of Monday’s deadline.

Green is a key member of a young Rockets core also featuring Şengün, Jabari Smith Jr., Amen Thompson and rookie Reed Sheppard, all of whom are younger than 23 years old. With veterans Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks in the starting lineup, the Rockets are looking to make a leap this season from being perpetually lottery-bound to contention for a playoff spot in the West.

The Rockets will open the season on Wednesday against the Charlotte Hornets.
