Residents of Nakhchivan will receive more electricity

In the near future, the total generation capacity of hydroelectric power stations will be increased to 120 megawatts after the construction of the Ordubad hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 36 megawatts and the Tivinskaya hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 15.6 megawatts.

Metin Abbasli, head of the press service of the State Energy Service of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, told Day.Az.

“Today, the total generation capacity of hydroelectric power stations in Nakhchivan is 68.4 megawatts,” he said.

It should be noted that in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic there are 5 hydro, 3 solar, 1 wind and 1 hybrid power plants. In September 2024 alone, 35 percent of the total electricity produced came from alternative and renewable energy sources. Compared to 9 months of last year, the share of electricity produced from alternative and renewable energy sources increased by almost 20 percent. Thus, if in the nine months of 2023 the share of green energy production was 35.1 percent, then for the corresponding period in 2024 this figure increased to 53 percent. Currently, 55 percent of all electricity comes from green energy.
