Hyderabad: K. who changed his name to Bharatiya Rashtra Samiti (BRS) with national ambitions. Chandrasekhara Rao’s party is all set to become the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) again. Feeling that the name has lost its ‘appeal’, the party is seeking legal avenues to reclaim its old name. Defeat in the assembly elections held in November prompts a rethink.

The party got only 39 out of 119 seats. With this, leaders started flocking to BJP and Congress. The party is in a situation where it cannot exist without joining the NDA or India Alliance. In the last Lok Sabha elections, the party won 9 out of 17 seats. The party does not have the confidence to repeat that victory this time.

The party was founded in the name of making Telangana state a reality. It was found that the soul of the party was drained after the name was changed to BRS. “Telangana is our identity. Telangana was changed from name to Bharat in 2022 with the aim of growing in national politics. The name change was approved by the Election Commission.

The leadership says that the party ranks themselves are asking why the word Telangana has been abandoned. Meanwhile, the name change may not be possible before the Lok Sabha elections. If there are legal issues, the party will check whether it can use the name TRS in the state and BRS elsewhere.
