The election for the post of President, known as India’s first citizen, was held on July 15, 2022. As the term of India’s 14th President Ram Nath Kovind ended on July 24, elections were announced to elect the 15th President. In this election, 64-year-old Draupadi Murmu contested on behalf of the BJP alliance. Yashwant Sinha contested as the general candidate of the opposition parties. The election was held on July 18 and the results were announced on July 21.

BJP alliance candidate Draupadi Murmu (6,76,803) has won in the recently concluded elections. He has secured victory by getting 2,96,626 more votes than Yashwant Sinha (3,80,177) who contested against him. Draupadi Murmu is India’s second woman president and the first tribal president.
