The police in the Oberpullendorf area searched for a suspect who escaped for four days. The rat could be caught now and brought home. The police responsible received “honorary sponsorship”.
Tschurndorf – After four days in freedom, the female rhea “Franzi” was recaptured in the Oberpullendorf area. The rat escaped through a damaged fence at the “Lebenshof Sonnenweide” last Tuesday, crossed a roundabout, a park & ride facility and the B50 before being brought home unharmed, the Burgenland State Police Department reported on Monday.
Due to the violent storm a few weeks ago, a tree fell on the fence of the enclosure and damaged it. The rhea slipped through the gap and explored the surroundings. The birds can run up to 60 km/h and jump 1.60 meters high, the release said. The emergency services that were notified were initially unable to arrest the rhea.
In the Tschurndorf area, a resident finally found the animal and opened the garden gate. A farmer driving past blocked the path with his tractor and managed to guide the bird into the garden. Because of their commitment, the officers from the Kobersdorf police station received “honorary sponsorship” for “Franzi”. (APA)
