Prime Video has released the official trailer for the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which premieres globally on November 11, 2026. Set five years after the fall of Eregion, the season follows Sauron’s quest to forge the One Ring while Middle-earth’s remaining strongholds prepare for war.
Sauron Forges the One Ring
The third season of the fantasy epic brings the Dark Lord into his legendary armored form
to exert control over Middle-earth. According to the official synopsis, the upcoming episodes focus on Sauron’s efforts to craft the One Ring, a tool he intends to use to bind all peoples to his will and secure total victory. This development occurs within the newly completed fortress of Barad-dûr, now established as the center of his power.
Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have signaled a darker tone for the new episodes. We have a full-on villain this season, in a way that was quite different before,
Payne noted. McKay added that the third outing is darker, more dangerous … No one is safe.
These creative leads are supported by a production team that includes executive producers Lindsey Weber, Kate Hazell, and Justin Doble. Matthew Penry-Davey serves as producer, with Ally O’Leary Cantrell, Tim Keene, and Andrew Lee acting as co-producers.
Resistance Fights Five Years After Eregion
The narrative jumps forward five years from the events of the second season. Sauron’s armies have systematically conquered large portions of the world, leaving few territories untouched.
The remaining resistance is fragmented, with the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm sealed deep within their mountain halls and the Elven realms of Lindon and Rivendell maintaining their defense through the Three Rings. The series, which spans thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, continues to explore the fabled Second Age.

Returning performers include Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Owain Arthur, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Ismael Cruz Córdova, and Daniel Weyman, who returns for his first fully-fledged season as Gandalf the Wise. Charlie Vickers reprises his role as the Dark Lord, while Benjamin Walker also returns to the cast.
Middle-earth Faces Internal Crises
As the threat of war looms, the various peoples of Middle-earth face internal crises. The trailer teases the arrival of Jamie Campbell Bower as Celeborn, alongside glimpses of various beasts including the Balrog, Mumakil, and Fell. The show also introduces the Nazgnagôl—the series' original take on the proto-Ringwraiths—who patrol the lands under Sauron's command.
