Baghdad: A rocket attack on an international airport in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, has been reported. At least six rockets landed at the airport around 4.30am local time yesterday, an international news agency quoted an Iraqi security official as saying. No crowds.

Camp Victory, a U.S. air base, was located near the scene of the attack. The rocket’s debris landed near the runway and in the parking area. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of an Iraqi Airways plane parked at the airport. However, the Aviation Authority said that air traffic was not disrupted. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Rocket attacks by Shia militant groups against the U.S. military presence in the region have been on the rise in recent times. Earlier this month, two locals were injured in a rocket attack on a U.S. embassy in Baghdad.
