Team USA Athletes Shine in European Water Polo Action & Domestic League Play
A surge of impressive performances from Team USA athletes across multiple European water polo leagues, alongside key domestic results, highlights a busy period for American players competing internationally. From Champions League victories to crucial league matchups, US talent continues to make a significant impact on the global stage.
Champions League & Euro Cup Dominance
The Women’s Champions League Group Stage saw standout showings from American attackers. Jewel Roemer spearheaded Mataro to a surprising 12-7 win against Sabadell, a team also featuring Team USA teammates Prentice Country and Isabel Williams. Roemer’s four goals secured an unblemished 3-0 record for Mataro in group play. Simultaneously, Jovan Sekulic contributed to Olympiacos’ continued success with a 16-8 victory over Dunaujvaros, maintaining their unbeaten streak in the Champions League group stage.
In the Women’s Euro Cup, Group Stage action saw further contributions from US players. Jordan Raney scored twice for Ethnikos in a decisive 15-8 win over Polar Bears, while Malia Allen added a goal to Trieste’s 18-12 triumph against Keruleti.
Italian, Greek & Spanish League Battles
Across the men’s leagues, Team USA athletes continued to demonstrate their prowess. In Italy’s Serie A1, Max Irving netted three goals for Pro Recco in a commanding 23-11 victory over Ortigia. However, Nicolas Saveljic and TeliMar faced defeat against Quinto, falling 14-12.
The Greek League witnessed explosive offensive performances. Hannes Daube led Apollon Smyrnis to a dominant 30-8 win over Thalassis with an impressive six goals. Meanwhile, Adrian Weinberg and Panathinaikos secured a resounding 30-7 victory against Patros.
Spain’s Men’s League saw a historic upset as Jack Larsen and Sabadell defeated Barceloneta 15-14, ending Barceloneta’s nearly 1000-day winning streak in the Spanish league.
Women’s Spanish League Highlights & Rising Stars
The Women’s Spanish League also featured strong performances from Team USA players. Prentice Country and Isabel Williams led Sabadell to a 14-10 victory over Terrassa. Despite a narrow loss, Jewel Roemer scored twice for Mataro in a close contest against Sant Andreu. Additionally, Maryn Dempsey showcased her scoring ability with a hat trick for Tenerife Echeyde, though they ultimately fell to Sant Feliu 17-13.
