Roscosmos asked Belarus to choose a candidate who will fly into space as the first Belarusian cosmonaut, said the head of the corporation Dmitry Rogozin, Interfax reports.

The head of Roskosmos noted that the flight with her participation is scheduled for 2023-2024. The first candidates for the Cosmonaut Training Center will be presented in January-June next year.

On November 4, Vladimir Putin announced that Russia is ready to send a Belarusian cosmonaut into space and include him in the ISS crew. The President specified that this could happen in the near future. According to the Russian leader, Minsk came up with the initiative. And he noted that Belarus needs to agree on the details: “They are, and they are not difficult in order to be agreed.”

Belarus and Russia have been cooperating in the space industry since 1998, and the first Cosmos-BR program began to be implemented in 1999. The partners developed the Cosmos-SG program for the creation of devices for remote sensing of the Earth. Within its framework, a center for receiving information from orbit was also created.
