Romania intends to continue supporting energy projects in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
As Day.Az reports, State Secretary of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ana Cristina Tinca told Trend about this.
“The South Caucasus and Azerbaijan, as a coastal country of the Caspian Sea, are the most natural bridge connecting the European Union and Kazakhstan and bringing them closer politically and economically. It is equally important that both Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are key partners of the European Union in the field of energy. Thus “The European Union and Romania in particular (as an EU member state on the Black Sea) will continue to support all projects aimed at strengthening energy security,” she said.
As noted by Ana Cristina Tinca, Romania places particular emphasis on diversifying supply sources and transport routes, promoting the sustainable development of new energy sources and promoting a balanced transition to a green economy.
“Naturally, increasing the volume of hydrocarbon transportation through the Caspian and Black Seas, building new infrastructure capacities or expanding existing ones, as well as the development of green energy remain key topics of interest for us. When it comes to connectivity, we believe that politicians in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan and the European Union (including Romania) share the same views on the importance of developing transport and logistics, energy and digital connectivity,” she said.
The Secretary of State emphasized that Romania is directly involved in such key projects as regular ferry lines in the Black Sea, laying an electric cable along the bottom of the Black Sea (the Green Electricity Corridor), laying an undersea fiber optic cable in the direction of the South Caucasus and the Black Sea freight transport corridor. Caspian Sea.
“All these projects also contribute to strengthening ties between Europe and Kazakhstan, as well as the Central Asian region as a whole,” she added.
Let us recall that on December 17, 2022, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary signed a strategic partnership agreement, which provides for the construction of an energy bridge from the Caucasus region to Europe.
As part of the agreement reached, the construction of a Black Sea Energy undersea electric cable with a capacity of 1,000 MW and a length of 1,195 kilometers is expected. The cable will be designed to supply green electricity produced in Azerbaijan through Georgia and the Black Sea to Romania for onward transport to Hungary and the rest of Europe. This will allow for the supply of up to four gigawatts of green energy.
