The Kingdom is represented during this session, which is being held at FAO headquarters until October 25 under the theme “50 years of the CFS: working together for a world free from hunger and malnutrition”, by a delegation chaired by the ambassador, permanent representative of Morocco to the United Nations agencies based in Rome, Youssef Balla.
This new session of the CFS emphasizes urgent actions to combat acute food crises resulting from conflicts. It also aims to strengthen the governance mechanisms of UN agencies, with a view to achieving the sustainable transformation of food and agricultural systems.
During this four-day session, the Moroccan delegation will emphasize the Kingdom’s commitment to the fundamental principles of the CFS, including the adoption of key policy recommendations, such as reducing inequalities in food security and nutrition and the application of voluntary guidelines on the progressive realization of the right to adequate food.
Furthermore, the Moroccan delegation will organize, on the sidelines of this session, a side event dedicated to the discussion of means aimed at accelerating the reduction of inequalities, through investment in entrepreneurship.
This event, in which the OCP Group will take part, aims to raise awareness among participants on the disparities that persist in food systems and to explore concrete solutions to reduce these inequalities, by reiterating Morocco’s commitment to an inclusive and equitable approach in food security in the world.
The Committee on World Food Security is the main international intergovernmental platform dedicated to coordinating policies on food security and nutrition. Established in 1974, the CFS brings together governments, UN agencies, civil society, the private sector, and other stakeholders to debate and adopt policies to eradicate hunger and malnutrition worldwide. Its role is to promote collaborative and inclusive approaches to strengthening global food security, with a particular focus on vulnerable groups, gender equality and the sustainable development of food systems.
