The launch date of the Luna-25 station was postponed from July 13 to August, the press service of Roscosmos reported in Telegram. The state corporation explained the transfer by the need to conduct additional tests to land the apparatus on the surface of the moon.

“In order to achieve the required reliability of the mission, it is necessary to carry out additional measures that will ensure the stable operation of ground controls at the stages of carrying out corrections and landing on the surface. It has been deemed expedient to launch Luna-25 in August 2023,” Roskosmos said in a statement.

Luna-25 is the first mission to the Moon in the history of modern Russia. Within its framework, it is planned to send an automatic probe for research in the region of the South Pole of the Moon. It is expected that the module will be landed near the Boguslavsky crater.

Initially, the launch of Luna-25 was planned to be carried out before the end of 2022, later it was postponed to July 13 of this year.

The head of Roskosmos, Yuri Borisov, said in October 2022 that Russia would have the opportunity to land astronauts on the moon in ten years. After the launch of Luna-25, the Luna-26, Luna-27 and Luna-28 missions are also planned.
