Rospotrebnadzor learned to identify types of coronavirus

According to Izvestia, specialists from the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor have developed a method to help determine the type of coronavirus strain that a patient is infected with.

The procedure goes through several stages. First, specialists take samples (smears) and isolate the RNA of the virus. Further, with the help of special preparation, this material is made “understandable” for a special device – a sequencer. At the same time, it is specified that domestic reagents are used for this procedure.

It is the sequencing of the biomaterial that helps scientists determine the genomic sequences of the virus and determine the specific strain that a person has become infected with.
