Severe weakness, fever, headache, cough and loss of appetite are the main symptoms of infection with the Omicron coronavirus strain, Deputy Director for Clinical Work of the Moscow Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after G.N. Gabrichevsky Rospotrebnadzor, Doctor of Medical Sciences Tatyana Ruzhentsova.

“At present, according to the analysis of the course of the disease, we can say that, first of all, most patients have severe weakness or fatigue, an increase in body temperature up to 38 degrees and above, headaches, decreased appetite, cough,” said the doctor.

According to her, these manifestations of the disease may be accompanied by lesions of the lungs and other organs typical for COVID-19.

Ruzhentsova added that to date, little is known about the characteristics of the Omicron strain, but new information is expected soon.

On December 7, British doctor David Lloyd on December 7 warned of an unusual symptom that manifests itself in children who have contracted a new strain of Omicron coronavirus infection – a rash. Lloyd said that it appears in 15% of children. At the same time, along with the rash, symptoms such as fatigue, headache and loss of appetite occur, the doctor added.

On the same day, virologist Pyotr Chumakov said that the Omicron strain is less pathogenic, but at the same time more infectious, which is also good. Thus, it is possible that nature has created a “live vaccine” against the coronavirus. People who carry the strain will become resistant to disease-causing variants, he said.

On November 30, the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova announced that the Russian Federation is introducing a two-week quarantine for those arriving from countries with a high risk of infection with the Omicron coronavirus strain. We are talking about South Africa, neighboring African states, China, Great Britain and other countries that have announced the discovery of a new strain.
